Accountant (Property & Construction focus)

Job Description

Our clients are seeking an experienced, business-minded Accountant to join the head office team of a prominent property development and investment group in Sandton. Reporting directly to the Financial Manager, you will hold responsibility for managing full accounting operations to balance sheet, bank and inter-company reconciliations, cash flow forecasting, and property sales tracking. This role requires a professional with above-average financial acumen, a strong understanding of audit procedures, and the leadership capacity to manage contract payments and liaise directly with transferring attorneys. If you bring a proven track record in property development or construction finance, strong systems knowledge, and exceptional attention to detail, this position offers an outstanding career environment.

Requirements:
• Education: Relevant Diploma, Bachelor’s Degree, or similar professional qualification in Accounting or Finance (or a minimum of 5 years’ related experience in a senior accounting role).
• Industry Experience: Proven accounting experience in the property development, real estate, or construction sectors is strongly advantageous.
• Financial Operations: Hands-on experience with bank reconciliations, fixed asset registers, inter-company loan accounts, progress payment schedules, and property rates account management.
• Legal & Audit Coordination: Track record of managing contract payments/draws, liaising with transferring attorneys, tracking property sales, and preparing audit-ready documentation.
• Software Systems: Computer literate with solid IT knowledge and proficiency in accounting software, specifically Pastel and QuickBooks.
• Leadership & Acumen: Above-average commercial acumen, strategic focus, problem-solving ability, and strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
